bb84 Lab

Status: Planned · Group: Quantum infrastructure

The first quantum cryptography protocol, on a real QPU.

bb84 Lab runs the 1984 BB84 protocol on real quantum hardware, with Solana as the public classical channel. It's the protocol our name comes from, run on today's hardware.

How it works: the BB84 protocol on a real QPU

  1. Prepare. Alice's qubits are prepared in random bases on a QPU.
  2. Measure. Bob measures each qubit in a random basis of his own.
  3. Compare. Bases are compared in public on Solana, and qubits measured in mismatched bases are discarded (sifting).
  4. Check. A sample of the sifted bits gives the error rate on-chain: qber_bps = errors × 10 000 / n. Above ~11%, an eavesdropper is flagged.

What it gives you

  • Qubits prepared and measured on a QPU
  • Sifting and QBER computed on-chain
  • Eavesdropper flagged above ~11% QBER
  • Results recorded with a QPU receipt

Notes

  • Runs on a QPU; it doesn't send photons between wallets, so it isn't quantum key distribution (QKD).
  • Every run is recorded with a QPU job receipt.
  • Designed for learning and for showing real hardware at work.
