bb84 Messages
Status: Planned · Group: Identity & security
Private messages that stay private after Q-Day.
bb84 Messages encrypts wallet-to-wallet messages with ML-KEM, the NIST post-quantum key exchange. Messages recorded today can't be decrypted later by a quantum computer.
How it works: post-quantum messaging between wallets
- Publish a key. Your ML-KEM public key is stored in your Quantum ID records, so others can find it by name.
- Encrypt. The sender encapsulates a shared secret to your ML-KEM key and encrypts the message with it.
- Deliver. Only the ciphertext travels or is stored. Nothing readable touches the chain.
- Read. You decapsulate with your private key and read the message, in the wallet.
What it gives you
- ML-KEM key exchange
- Keys published in your Quantum ID
- Wallet-to-wallet addressing
- Encrypted files and secrets
Notes
- Harvest now, decrypt later is the threat: ML-KEM protects messages that are recorded today.
- The same scheme covers encrypted files and secrets.
- Senders are still identified by their wallet; ML-KEM protects the content.
